Area Information Marco Island is located on the Gulf of Mexico in South West Florida. It is the northernmost and largest of the Ten Thousand Islands, at the western gateway to the Everglades National Park. The island is approximately 6 miles long by 4 miles wide, consists of about 9,000 acres, and is connected to the mainland by two toll-free bridges. There are only 3 hotels on the beachfront, no advertising hoardings to be seen anywhere, and the absence of Mediterranean-style crowds is wonderful! |

The closest airport is SW Florida International (RSW), near Fort Myers, just under 1 hour's drive. Numerous airlines operate direct flights from many major U.S. cities and Europe to Miami, Tampa and Orlando. From Miami, Marco Island is an easy drive across the Everglades, less than 2 hours (100 miles). Tampa is about 3 hours and Orlando is just under 4 hours away. |

| There's
just about something for everyone in and around Marco. If
you've just spent a week at the Orlando attractions,
you'll welcome the rest and relaxation to be had from
lazing around the swimming pool or on the beach. No
crowds, queues nor hassles! Just through the gate from the pool area, and you're on Tigertail Beach, the northern part of Marco's lovely Crescent Beach. Swim in the calm waters of the Gulf as the pelicans dive for fish. Dolphins are often seen within yards of the shoreline too. You can stroll along Sand Dollar Island and comb the beach for shells. Rentals of cabanas, windsurfers and small water craft are available at Tigertail, as well as sales of food and drink. |

Motor boats and waverunners can be hired from nearby marinas, and you can explore the inland waterways and access uninhabited islands. If you're a keen fisherman, you'll enjoy an escorted offshore expedition, or maybe you'll just cast a line into one of the many waterways which criss-cross the island and surrounding area. Bike and motor-scooter rentals are also available on the island. Other leisure activities include tennis, sailing, and parasailing. The area also has several golf courses open to the public. The Everglades National Park is just down the road, where airboat and swamp-buggy rides are available at a number of locations. There are wildlife centers, including a zoo at Naples. Further afield, Key West - the most southerly point of the continental United States - can be visited on a day-trip basis by air or sea cruises from the Marco River Marina. Marco boasts many restaurants covering cuisines from around the world. Most offer an informal dining style, consistent with the vacation-mode of their customers. There is a good range of shops, including 3 large supermarkets. At nearby Naples, you'll find a broad range of department stores and designer outlets. We recognise that groups occasionally wish to split up, so we provide an extra set of keys to ensure you are not tied to making a timely rendezvous in order to re-enter the apartment. We feel that little details like this make all the difference in the enjoyment of your stay. |
